The Auto Expo 2010-Audi introduces A7 & Q7


At the Delhi Auto Expo 2010, German carmaker Audi announced that its A7 Sportback would be for sale in India by 2011 and 4.2 V8 TDI diesel Q7 by April 1st, 2010. In the Indian luxury car segment Audi faces direct competition with BMW and intents to catch up on the market share.

A7 the luxury coupe model goes into production this year and will be available internationally. The sportsback is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel attains the speed of 100 kmph from 0 in less than 7 seconds with a top speed of 245 kmph. It uses the same platform as A6 but has a lighter aluminum platform with steel reinforcements.

The other big launch Q7 diesel model is perhaps the most powerful diesel SUV and is priced at Rs 65 lakh. Audi plans to bring in more dealers and increase the number from current 12 to 17 in the coming months. After the launch of the limited edition model at Rs. 37 lakh, Audislashed the price of its A6 model.

Benoit Tiers, MD Audi India and Peter Schwarzenbauer, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG said that Audi sold 1,650 units in India in 2009 and expect to sell 2,300 to 2,500 units in the country this year. Globally Audi sold 925,000 vehicles and plan to double this figure by 2015.

Audi also plans to bring in its A8 model in the Indian market. The model with 12-cylinder will be launched in the European market this year. Audi also sold 20 R8s in the country and expect 10 to 15 more units to be sold in 2010.
